The Georgia ACS League Association and Mazzy’s Sports Bar & Grill invite you to participate in the 1st Annual Mazzy’s Open Scotch Doubles Classic to be held at Mazzy’s Sports Bar & Grill in Roswell, GA on February 23-24.

Similar to other events we have produced over the past few years, this will be an open scotch doubles event conducted in a round robin format. Every team entered will play a minimum of 5 matches and the field will be cut to the top 25% who will return Sunday for the round robin finals. Please see the attached 2013 Roswell Scotch Doubles tournament flyer for detailed information regarding this event. NOTE: NO BCAPL, ACS, VNEA, OR TAP PLAYERS CLASSIFIED AS ADVANCED OR MASTERS WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT.

1st Annual Mazzy's Open Scotch Doubles Classic

NOTE: Mazzy's Sports Bar & Grill is a designated smoking venue. As such, Georgia state law prohibits entry to anyone under the age of 21.

Times:
  • Doors open for registration and practice at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Start time is Noon.
  • Doors open at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Remaining tournament matches and the Second-Chance Tournament will begin at noon.
Format:
  • Open Division only- No Handicap
  • The format will be Round Robin with 6-8 teams in each group. The top 25% of the teams, based on total games won, will advance to the finals to be held on Sunday.
  • 8-Ball I 9-Ball Combination (Similar to U.S. Amateur and APA Masters format)
  • Players will lag to begin match.
  • The winner of the lag chooses the game to start (8-Ball or 9-Ball) OR to take the first break.
  • The loser of the lag has the choice not opted for by the winner of the lag.
  • If 9-Ball is chosen as the game to start, 5 games of9-Ball are played, followed by 4 games of 8-Ball, or vice versa, 4 games of 8-Ball followed by 5 games of 9-Ball.
  • Matches will be a race to 5. (NOTE: If9-Ball is chosen as the starting game, the match could possibly end before playing 8-Ball.)
  • The winner of each game will have the break in the following game. Rack for yourself.
  • At the beginning of the match, each team will select its order of play. That order will continue throughout the entire match and may not be changed between games.
  • Players will be allowed one 30-second conference each game while at the table. Otherwise, players are permitted to talk to each other for no longer than 5 seconds while changing places at the table. The first offense to the 5-second rule will result in a warning. Subsequent offenses will be treated as ball-in-hand fouls.

Eligibility:
Players must be currently playing in a league sanctioned by ACS, APA, BCAPL, TAP, or VNEA. Teams must be composed of two players from the same league. Participants must have played at least four full matches over a minimum of four weeks during their current league session. Verification of eligibility may be required. NOTE: BCAPL and ACS Advanced or Master players are not permitted to participate.

Equipment:
(8) 8-ft Robertson tables are designated for the tournament.

Entry Fee:
$20 per person ($40 per 2-player team)

Prize Fund:
Mazzy's Sports Bar & Grill will donate all table time. A team auction (Calcutta) will be held. Approximately 1 place will be paid for every 4 entries. Based on a 16-team field, the payout would be: 1st Place $300, 2nd $180, 3rd $100, and 4th $60. We expect the field to be 16 to 24 teams. The prize fund payout will change proportionally based on the entries.

Second-Chance Tournament:
A Second-Chance Tournament will be held on Sunday at noon for any players who are not competing in the remaining matches of the scotch doubles tournament. The format will be double elimination 9-Ball Singles with races to 4 on the winners' side and 3 on the losers'. The entry fee is $20, all going to the prize fund. The payout will be approximately 1 for 4 entries.
